Microwaves are one of the most commonly used appliances in the kitchen which can commonly show on the inside. Food can get stuck on even harder over time and leave behind a caked on layer that can look quite unsanitary. Removing the door of your microwave can allow for a more detailed cleaning and access you wouldn’t normally have with it still on.
Other times, common use can cause microwave doors to crack and require a replacement. In this article, we will show you how to easily remove a microwave door in a quick and safe manner. Before you begin, you will need to acquire a screwdriver and putty knife. Now you are ready to begin.
#1.) Unplug Your Microwave
For safety reasons, unplug your microwave and place the entire thing on a flat surface. If you have a model that is installed under the counter or above the stove, remove the cover off the front panel to unscrew the mounting screws which will allow you to pull microwave out of the brackets.
#2.) Remove the Cover
After removing the glass tray out of the microwave, remove the plastic cover of the door, carefully working around the edge until the cover completely loosens and comes off. The plastic and trim are held in place by delicate clips, so be sure to not break them.
#3.) Remove the Microwave Door
Open the microwave door as far as it will go and pull the mounting pins from the hinges, which you will find at both the bottom and top of the door. It helps to have another person hold the door while you remove the pins or at the least, it can help move things along faster.
#4.) Door Replacement
Replacing the microwave door is similar to removing it. Press the panel carefully into place, where you should hear each clip snap back into it’s original place. Now put the door back on. Having someone hold the door helps once again, as you can easier align the mounting pins and put them back into place.
